I think everyone visiting this site already knows that an akgae is a person that "stans" a member of a group while openly hating on others. Scare quotes on purpose.
However I've seen way too many people write them off as an unfortunate consequence of a group becoming popular that fans can't really do anything about. Or even characterise them as a different kind of fans, or even worse, claim they're actually normal in some countries, so we shouldn't care either. And personally I think that's, to put it lightly, utter bullshit. There are things we can and should do to minimise their number. And they must never be validated by ot8 stays, because they shouldn't be considered fans of the kids in the first place. (I will elaborate later.)
We really need to act. Letting akgaes run free is one of the worst things a fandom can do, and if you're not convinced, definitely keep reading.
You might encounter people passionately trying to explain that harmless solo stans who don't hate on the members exist and shouldn't be called akgaes. Well, they do exist, but they're completely irrelevant to the fandom. You see, "solo stan" is a bit of a semantically confusing term which may mean completely different kinds of people depending on context. There are three kinds of them, and one of them is exclusive to certain groups.
